  • Is actively lobbying the Legislature for the freedom to create individual institutional governing boards as long as they include faculty seats on those boards
  • Worked with OUS in 2011 to pass SB 242 giving the OUS much needed freedom from the state bureaucracy
  • Joined a coalition that in 2009 helped pass Measures 66 and 67 -- which required corporations to pay more than a flat $10 minimum income tax
  • Secured $10 million for faculty salary increases in the OUS budget. 2007
  • Jointly lobbied to secure the strongest OUS budget allocation in over a decade, including $561 million for capital construction projects. 2007
  • Passed legislation that eliminated the PERS break-in-service requirement which paves the way for faculty to take sabbaticals without losing their PERS status. 2007
  • Stemmed OUS’ proposed radical changes to the ORP redesign. 2007
  • Removed a stipulation in a bill that could have allowed OUS to reduce its contributions to faculty pensions. 2007
  • Led the successful legal challenge to the November 2003 ORP rate reduction. 2004
  • Defeated legislation that could have resulted in lower contribution rates to the Optional Retirement Plan for faculty. 2003
  • Participated in litigation that questioned the 2003 PERS legislation reducing benefits for members. 2003
  • Passed legislation providing authority for faculty to be served at student health centers on OUS campuses. 2003 
  • Defeated proposed budget cuts of $96.1 million and passed legislation adding back significant general fund dollars. 2001
  • Won approval of a tuition reduction plan for spouses and children of faculty that has reciprocity among OUS universities.  2000
  • Passed legislation increasing funding by almost 25% over the 1997-99 budget level.  1999
  • Passed legislation to authorize the appointment of a faculty member to the State Board of Higher Education.  1997
  • Faculty were the only group of executive branch employees to receive both the 6% PERS pick-up and a salary increase in 1995-1997.  1995
  • Received authorization for cumulative 9% faculty salary increases totaling $21.6 million.  1995
  • Prevented a 5% reduction from the 1992-93 budget and a salary freeze on all state employees.  1993
